Final month, Norwalk handed an ordinance briefly banning homeless shelters, single-room occupancy housing and supportive housing. The ordinance moreover banned liquor shops, laundromats, automotive washes and payday mortgage institutions.
“By virtue of their operational characteristics, the uses listed and defined above, may have detrimental effects (i.e., maintenance of property, over proliferation, security noise, and possible economic impacts) on the community,” based on a Sept. 17 metropolis workers report.
The report recommends that the Metropolis Council prolong the ban on homeless shelters, liquor shops and the opposite developments for an additional 10½ months.
“Norwalk’s residents — indeed all Californians — should be outraged,” Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta stated in a press release. “If necessary, my office stands ready to take legal action against Norwalk.”
